Ghana gets off to a good start in the women’s football competition at the 9th All Africa Games as the Black Princesses post a 2-1 win over host nation, Algeria.

The Black Princesses making their debut at the women’s competition go top in Group B after Monday evening’s win at the Zeralda.

Algeria shot into the lead after 10 minutes but Black Princesses captain, Diana Ankomah restored parity for Ghana when she scored the equaliser in the 15th minute.

Diana Ankomah grabbed a brace when she doubled up for Ghana in the 37th minute to win the game for the Black Princesses.

This is the second time in succession that women are playing at the All Africa Games in the football event at the quadrennial after the Women’s edition was introduced the last edition in 2003 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Ghana and Senegal are appearing for the first time in the Women’s edition which was debuted at the 8th All Africa Games.

The Games, which represents Africa’s version of the Olympic Games draws lots of countries to participate in a host of sporting events is been hosted by Algeria for the first time after 1978.

Ghana’s large contingent seeking honours includes two football teams, the Black Princesses and the Black Meteors.
