Ghana could realise a debut FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup dream beginning Sunday with a preliminary African qualifier against Guinea at home.

The Black Princesses, Ghana’s women’s Under-19 team, who were bronze medallist at the last All-African Games, would play their opponents from Guinea at the Ohene Djan Stadium in the qualifying campaign for a place at Chile, venue for the World Cup.

Sunday afternoon’s preliminary qualifier is one of the eight qualifying round matches involving 16 nations on the continent. And it comes exactly week to the start African Cup of Nations which would both Ghana and Guinea get the competition underway in the opening match at the same venue.

Africa has two slots at the World Cup to be hosted by Chile which comes up between December 30, 2008 to January 17, 2009.

Ghana coach, Mumuni Gamel remains optimistic about the chances of the Black Princesses in today’s first leg match.

“We have been preparing well for this game and I have enough confidence in the girls to deliver against the Guineans.

“I wish there support would be there right from the start,” Gamel said in an interview.

Sunday’s game which kicks off at 15:00 GMT is the first round of qualifiers for the 2008 World Cup.

And a win for the Black Princesses over the two-leg tie would hand them another tie with the winner of the Lesotho - Botswana game in the first round later in April.
