Princesses finish off Guineans

Ghana has advanced to the first round of the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup qualifiers after beating Guinea 3-0 over the weekend in Conakry.

The win makes it 7-0 on aggregate for the Black Princesses after beating Guinea 4-0 in the first leg at the Ohene Djan Stadium a fortnight ago.

Ghana will now play the winner of the Lesotho-Botswana game in the first round of the qualifying series later in April as Africa’s campaign is narrows down eight teams.

Sylla Owusu started Ghana’s scoring run in the 26th minute when he rounded up her markers before planting the ball into an empty goal.

Two minutes before the first half ended, the Black Princesses doubled their lead. Diana Ankomah who hit a hat-trick in the first leg, this time struck a brace as she scored Ghana’s second goal in the 43rd minute to send the game half time.

Back from the break, the hosts could not threaten as Ankomah scored her personal second, to make it 3-0 for Ghana. The goal was the striker’s fifth goal in the qualifying series.

Africa has two slots at the World Cup to be hosted by Chile which comes up between December 30, 2008 to January 17, 2009.
