International Friendly: ENGLAND v GHANA

Venue: Wembley

Date: Tuesday 29 March

Kick-off: 1900 GMT (7:00PM local time)

Goran Stevanovic has been hugely impressed with his start to the Ghana job, winning two out of two games.

The Serb will today lead the Black Stars in his third game in charge and the opposition is England, in an international friendly in Wembley, the first meeting between both countries at senior level.

The game's shine has suffered amid England's decision to rest five key players against Ghana.

Both sides go into today's friendly on the back of convincing wins in their continental qualifiers over the weekend.

The Three Lions would be under pressure to win to avert further criticism over Fabio Capello's decision to rest certain players and justify that his other squad members are equally up to the task of leading England.

Capello has tried to rationalize the decision to leave out certain players for such an important game coming after their victory in the Euro qualifier against Wales.

"We don't decide the dates on when we can play games and it was impossible to find a different date," he said.

"It's important for me and the players to play games against a team like Ghana, who are a very important team.

"Usually, we are together only two days at a time in the season, which is nothing. This time, we have ten days. If you want to improve, you need more training and more time to be together."

The view from Ghana's Stevanovic represents one of calmness though he attaches enough importance to the game.

“We are playing against England, not one or two players. The players who start will be the best in England,” the Ghana coach said.

But for the Black Stars, the chance to become the first African team to defeat England at Wembley will serve as a big motivation in the sold out fixture.

"This is the first time Ghana played England so it is very important to us," Ghana's captain, John Mensah said.

"It will be a historic match because if we win, we make history.”
