President of the Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has paid a working visit to the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Esq., to discuss matters of shared interest, with a strong focus on football development and youth infrastructure.
The meeting took place at the Regional Coordinating Council in Wa on Tuesday, January 3, 2026, as part of the GFA President’s ongoing tour of the Upper West Region.
President Simeon-Okraku expressed his sincere appreciation to the Minister for his support for football and highlighted the growing demand across the region for improved playing infrastructure. He noted that the need for quality pitches has been a recurring concern raised by stakeholders during his engagements.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the warm reception and urge you to help push for infrastructure,” the President said.
“The youth of this region are crying for good pitches to play on. While the GFA will continue to offer its own level of support, we urge you to use your good office to help push for good playing surfaces. Everywhere I have been, this has been the clarion call.”
He reaffirmed the Football Association’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with government and other stakeholders to meet the aspirations of young people in the Upper West Region, using football as a tool for development, opportunity creation and social cohesion.
On his part, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing welcomed the GFA President and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and significant. He pledged his support for grassroots football by committing to sponsor Colts football in the region, a move aimed at strengthening youth development.
The Minister also indicated his readiness to engage on proposals that would help shape the infrastructure conversation and move it towards practical, sustainable solutions. He further called for continuous collaboration between the GFA and government, emphasizing football’s unifying power and its role in national development.
President Simeon-Okraku was led to the meeting by the Chairman of the Upper West Regional Football Association, popularly known as “Senior Minister,” Alhaji Sadugu Yahaya.
He was also supported by Chief of Staff, Michael Osekre, GFA Regional Football Coordinator, Daseebre Adu Asare, Dreams FC President, Jiji Alifoe Mohammed and Senior Communication Manager at the Office of the President, Patrick Akoto.
The visit marks another key step in strengthening partnerships at the regional level as the GFA continues its efforts to drive inclusive, sustainable football development across Ghana.
