President Kufour seek Stars success

Ghana’s President, John Agyekum Kufuor prays and wishes the Black Stars success at this month’s African Cup of Nations.

The African Cup of Nations will kick off in four Ghanaian cities beginning January 20 at the Ohene Djan Stadium in the capital, Accra, where host nation, Ghana play Guinea in the tournament’s opening game.

Delivering his usual message to the nation on the eve of New Year, the President, himself a football fan, reminded the Black Stars of the task ahead of them – competing for the African Cup of Nations, - and added that, the entire nation was looking up to team to lift the coveted trophy, which would make it Ghana’s fifth title success.

"We pray and wish the Stars every success", he said in his traditional New Year address to the nation.

President Kufuor said the country counted on the privileged players to conduct themselves in the true spirit of sportsmanship and high patriotism while also demanding the same from the public.

"These same virtues should also guide the behaviour of the general public throughout the competition, even as we give unalloyed support to our team."

President Kufuor also demanded that the nation extends all due courtesies to the over a million visitors who are expected in the country to make their stay a happy one and the tournament a success.

The tournament is which expected to attract high patronage by visitors, including over a million football fans and tourists would also receive high global television coverage, showcasing Ghana to the rest of the world.
