Premier League leaders Medeama SC were left frustrated after being held to a 0–0 draw at home by a resilient Bechem United, a result that leaves the top spot wide open heading into the next round of fixtures.
Despite enjoying the better openings, the Mauve and Yellow failed to make their dominance count, allowing at least three teams an opportunity to overtake them should results elsewhere go against them.
Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko saw his side move just a point ahead of Heart of Lions in second place and three clear of Asante Kotoko, whom they face in a high-stakes clash next weekend.
Bechem United executed their game plan superbly, limiting the influence of Medeama’s danger men Kelvin Nkrumah and Prince Owusu. The hosts came closest to winning the match in the dying moments when Augustine Okrah unleashed a brilliant strike that crashed off the lower part of the right post.
Bechem goalkeeper Benjamin Asiedu Kwesi delivered a standout performance, repeatedly denying Medeama with sharp reflexes and excellent positioning. Medeama midfielder Salim Adams was named Most Valuable Player for his tireless display in midfield.
The result keeps Medeama atop the table with 22 points, while Bechem United sit 14th on 10 points.
Karela United 3-2 Basake Holy Stars
Karela United returned to winning ways with a pulsating 3–2 victory over Basake Holy Stars on Saturday, ending their three-match winless streak in dramatic fashion at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
The Pride and Passion stormed into a commanding three-goal lead before a late fightback from the visitors set up a tense finale. Philip Adom opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Karela doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute through Danlad Nuhu. The momentum continued to swing in their favour as Eric Antwi struck in the 73rd minute to make it 3–0.
But Basake Holy Stars refused to fold. Prince Tweneboah reduced the deficit with a 77th-minute effort, and Richmond Somuah added another five minutes later to put pressure on the hosts in the final stretch. Despite the late surge, Karela held firm to secure all three points.
The victory extends Karela United’s impressive home form, with four wins and two draws in six matches, during which they have scored nine goals and conceded just four. The result lifts them to eighth place on the Premier League table, while Basake Holy Stars remain in the relegation zone.
