Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested Premier League match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, as both sides extended their unbeaten runs in the competition.
In a match defined by discipline and defensive organisation, Hearts of Oak dominated possession with 54% of the ball and looked the more adventurous of the two sides. However, their inability to convert chances proved costly as the resolute Lions backline stood firm throughout the 90 minutes.
The Phobians created the better opportunities, registering 10 shots with three on target, while Heart of Lions, content to sit deep and counterattack, managed just four attempts without testing the stand-in Hearts goalkeeper. Despite the absence of first-choice shot-stopper Benjamin Asare, who was on international duty with the Black Stars, Hearts’ defence remained composed under pressure and effectively neutralised Lions’ attacking threat.
The draw sees both teams maintain their unbeaten starts to the season, underlining their solid early form. Hearts of Oak will take encouragement from another clean sheet and their continued defensive strength, while Heart of Lions can be satisfied with securing a valuable away point against one of the league’s powerhouses.
Both sides now turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures as they look to build on their promising starts in what is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive Premier League campaign.
