Heart of Lions will return to the Kpando Sports Stadium for the first time in nearly a month when they face Basake Holy Stars on Friday, determined to bounce back to winning ways after a recent dip in form.
Following a strong start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, winning their opening three matches for their best top-flight start in recent years, the Kpando-based side have endured a challenging spell, going winless in their last three league outings (D2, L1). Their recent 3–1 defeat away to reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC marked their first loss of the season and their heaviest in all competitions since May 2025.
However, returning home offers a timely opportunity for Bashir Hayford’s men to reset and reassert their dominance. Heart of Lions have been formidable at the Kpando Sports Stadium, boasting a perfect home record this season and having won their last six home league games without conceding a single goal.
Currently sitting fifth on the league table with 11 points, Lions remain among the most potent attacking sides in the competition, having scored seven goals, the second joint-highest tally, while conceding just four. Friday’s encounter presents the ideal chance for them to reignite their early-season momentum against a struggling Holy Stars side they defeated 3–1 in their only previous home meeting last season.
Basake Holy Stars travel to Kpando seeking to turn around a dismal start to their campaign. The newly promoted side have endured a tough fixture list that has included clashes with Berekum Chelsea, Young Apostles, and Bechem United and currently sit bottom of the table with just two points from six matches.
Augustine Evans Adotey’s side remains the only team yet to score a goal this season, a statistic that highlights their attacking struggles. They have also conceded six times, the joint third-highest in the league, and have lost all three of their away fixtures by the same 2–0 margin.
