As the curtain falls on the 2024-25 Premier League season, all eyes turn to a dramatic final matchday packed with high-stakes action. From a fiercely contested title race and the battle for top-four places to the tense fight for survival at the bottom, every match carries weight and consequence. With pride, ambition, and futures on the line, the final whistle of this campaign promises both triumph and heartbreak.
Here’s a match-by-match preview of what to expect on a thrilling final day in Ghana’s top flight on Sunday June 8, 2025, across eight venues.
Hearts of Oak vs FC Samartex 1996
Hearts of Oak will look to end the season on a high when they host reigning champions FC Samartex 1996 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, June 8, in what promises to be a fiercely contested final-day clash.
The Phobians are hitting form at just the right time, having secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over already relegated Legon Cities last weekend. That result marked their fourth win in five matches (W4, D1), lifting them to 55 points, just two shy of a top-four finish. With 31 goals scored and only 18 conceded, the second best defensive record in the league, Hearts have built a strong foundation under head coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
At home, Hearts of Oak have been particularly solid since their narrow 0-1 loss to title-chasing Nations FC on matchday 21 in early April. They’ve gone unbeaten in their last four home league games (W2, D2), keeping three clean sheets in the process. Sunday’s fixture presents a golden opportunity to cap off a strong end to the season with a place in the top four.
FC Samartex 1996 come into the match on the back of a dramatic 2-1 win over Aduana FC, which saw them leapfrog Medeama SC into sixth place with 51 points. The Timber Giants have scored 33 goals and conceded 24 this term and will be keen to close the season with a statement result on the road.
Despite recent back-to-back away defeats to Heart of Lions and Nations FC, Christopher Ennin’s men remain one of the better away performers in the division and will draw confidence from their head-to-head record against Hearts of Oak. Since their promotion to the top flight in the 2022/23 season, Samartex have never lost an away league match to the Phobians, both visits to Accra ending in goalless draws.
Gold Stars FC vs Accra Lions
With everything on the line at both ends of the table, Gold Stars FC welcome Accra Lions to Dun’s Park on Sunday in a crunch final-day encounter in the Premier League.
The Miners head into the final day of the campaign sitting second on the table with 60 points, following a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Berekum Chelsea last weekend. That result has kept their hopes of a historic first-ever qualification to continental football alive. Under the guidance of coach Frimpong Manso, Gold Stars have emerged as one of the most consistent sides in the league, boasting the fourth-best attack with 34 goals scored and a solid defense that has conceded just 21 goals.
At home, Gold Stars have turned Dun’s Park into a fortress. They have won 11 of their 16 home matches, drawn four, and suffered only one defeat all season, ranking them as the fourth-best home team in the division. They’ll look to cap off their impressive campaign with a twelfth home win, especially against a familiar opponent they have never lost to at home since gaining promotion in 2021.
For Accra Lions, the stakes could not be higher. Their Premier League survival hangs in the balance after a turbulent season. Two wins and three losses in their last five games have left them on 35 points, three above the relegation zone. A defeat will spell disaster.
The Lions have struggled away from home, losing their last four matches on the road and ranking as the third-worst away team in the league. Defensively, they’ve conceded 40 goals, second most in the division, which highlights the challenge they face in keeping a confident Gold Stars side at bay.
Historically, the fixture slightly favors the hosts. In three league meetings at Bibiani since the 2021/22 season, Gold Stars have won once and drawn twice. They triumphed 2-0 in their first encounter, followed by goalless and 1-1 stalemates in subsequent seasons.
Dreams FC vs Legon Cities
Dreams FC will look to end their season on a high note when they host already-relegated Legon Cities at the Tuba Astroturf on Sunday, in a clash that pits two sides with contrasting fortunes in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
With their place in the top half already secured, Dreams FC come into the final day with pride and personal milestones as their remaining motivations. The Believers currently sit eighth with 49 points, following an impressive 2-0 away win over Accra Lions last weekend. That result ensured they cannot be overtaken, guaranteeing a fourth consecutive top-half finish since returning to the top flight in 2018/19.
Dreams FC have found consistency in recent weeks, registering four wins in their last five matches (W4, L1). While they’ve scored just 27 goals, the third-lowest in the division, their defensive organization has been admirable, conceding only 28 times. At home, they are enjoying a strong run of form, going unbeaten in their last five league outings (W4, D1) and conceding just once in that span.
Legon Cities will play their final game in the Premier League for the foreseeable future after a dismal campaign that saw them relegated with a game to spare. Their latest setback, a 2-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak, marked their 22nd loss of the season, more than any other side.
With just 25 points from 33 matches, the Royals have scored a league-low 22 goals and conceded a league-high 49, underscoring their struggles at both ends of the pitch. Their away form has been particularly woeful, amassing just two points from a possible 48—no team has fared worse on the road.
Though the pressure of survival is off, Legon Cities will be hoping to bow out of the top flight with some dignity and, potentially, claim their first away victory of the season.
Bechem United vs Young Apostles FC
Bechem United welcome league debutants Young Apostles to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday for their final home fixture of the season. This encounter marks the first-ever top-flight meeting between the two Bono Region sides, with Bechem aiming to end their campaign on a high at a ground where they’ve been nearly untouchable all season.
The Hunters currently sit 9th on the league table with 44 points, but recent form has been a concern. They’ve won just two of their last ten league outings (D2, L6), a stretch that has halted any push for a higher finish. However, their formidable home record offers some cause for optimism. Bechem are ranked as the fifth-best home side this season, with 11 wins, three draws and just two defeats from 16 home matches.
Young Apostles come into this match with their primary objective already achieved: survival. The newly promoted side secured their Ghana Premier League status with a morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Heart of Lions on matchday 32. While they cannot finish higher than the bottom half, the Wenchi-based outfit have shown glimpses of quality, proving they can be a threat on their day.
Despite their recent success, inconsistency has plagued Young Apostles throughout the campaign. They’ve managed only two wins in their last five games (L3), and their struggles on the road are evident. With just two wins and three draws from 16 away matches (L11), they are ranked as the fourth weakest team away from home. Defensively, they’ve conceded 35 goals, the third most in the league, while their attacking output of 24 goals is the second fewest.
Aduana FC vs Basake Holy Stars
Aduana FC wrap up their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Basake Holy Stars at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park on Sunday. While Aduana's hopes of a top-half finish were dashed following a narrow 2-1 defeat to champions FC Samartex last weekend, the Fire Club will be looking to finish strongly in front of their fans.
Currently sitting on 44 points with 36 goals scored, the joint third-highest in the league, Aduana have shown attacking promise throughout the season. Defensively, however, they’ve conceded 33 goals across 33 matches, underscoring their inconsistency. That said, they’ve turned the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park into a fortress in recent weeks, winning their last five home games and keeping four clean sheets in that run. A tenth home win will be the target as they look to sign off the season in style.
For visitors Basake Holy Stars, the stakes couldn’t be higher. A poor run of form, one win, two draws, and back-to-back defeats in their last five outings, has left Abdul Gazale’s men in need of a result on the final day to ensure survival.
The statistics paint a grim picture for the visitors away from home. With just one win from 16 away matches (D3, L12), and 27 goals conceded, the second highest on the road, the Holy Stars are among the league’s weakest travelers. They'll need to defy those odds if they’re to leave Dormaa with anything to show.
This match will also mark the first-ever Premier League meeting between Aduana FC and Basake Holy Stars in Dormaa since the latter's promotion.
Nations FC vs Heart of Lions
Nations FC welcome fourth-placed Heart of Lions to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday in the Premier League.
The Premier League looks set to be decided on this Sunday, as Nations FC still leading Gold Stars FC on goal difference after the Miners won their game against Berekum Chelsea over the weekend. They’ve recorded the most wins in the league (W18) after 32 matches, having scored 40 –the second most goals and conceded the fewest number of goals (16).
Heart of Lions remain fourth on the league table with 57 points after beaten Bechem United 2-1 at home soil over the weekend (W3, D1, L1), that win have seen the Kpando lads registered their sixteenth win from 33 matches. They’ve scored 36 goals –the third joint highest in the division and conceded 24. Bashir Hayford ‘s men are ranked as the fifth best away sides despites losing three of their last five matches away from home (W1, D1). They will yearn for the maximum points on Sunday.
Nations FC have hosted Heart of Lions once at home in the league since the Kpando-Based gained promotion back into the Premier League last season with the game ending in a 1-0 win for Nations FC.
Medeama SC vs Berekum Chelsea
Medeama SC will hope to end the 2024-25 Premier League campaign on a high when they entertain Berekum Chelsea at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday June 8, 2025.
The Mauve and Yellow, currently occupy the 7th position on the league table with 50 points, winning three and losing two in their last five outings. They’ve scored league-high 43 goals and conceded 32 from 33 matches. The 2022/23 champions are ranked as the second best home side in the league after winning their last five successive homes games, scoring 15 goals and conceding just twice at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium. Ibrahim Tanko’s men will be desperate to continue their remarkable home performance on Sunday.
Chelsea’s defeats in the league stretch to fourteen matches –the fourth highest after recording four consecutive losses in their last five matches (W1). They are currently sitting 12th on the league table with 41 points, having scored 33 and conceded 34 –the fourth joint most goals. Samuel Boadu’s men are ranked among the weakest away performers in the league (W2, D3, L11). They will be eager to end their four-game losing streak on Sunday when they trip to Tarkwa.
Medeama SC have hosted Berekum Chelsea four times at home in the league since 2020/21 season with Medeama SC willing two, drawing one and losing one. Medeama SC piped Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in the 2020/21 season, drawn 1-1 in the 2021/22 season, won 1-0 again in the 2022/23 season and lost 0-1 to Berekum Chelsea in the 2023/24 season.
Vision FC vs Asante Kotoko
Vision FC welcome giants Asante Kotoko to the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in the final day of the Premier League.
Vision FC should be delighted as they’ve already confirmed their stay in the Premier League, after winning four of their last five league games (L1) without conceding a single goal in those fixtures. They are currently 11th on the league table with 42 points, having scored 31 and are among the fourth most conceded sides in the division (34). It is certainly the case that Nana Agyeman’s side have built their successful survival bid on strong home form, with 31 of their 42 points earned so far in the 2024/25 campaign collected at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex (W8, D7, L1).
A thrilling 3-2 victory over Medeama FC in a fiercely contested fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium over the weekend means Abdul Karim Zito is unbeaten across his six games in all competitions for the Porcupine Warriors since his appointment on match day 29 (W4, D2). Including a hard fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium in mid-May.
He will be desperate to end the season as the interim coach without a defeat. Kotoko make the long journey to the south sitting third on the league table with 58 points, having scored the third joint most goals (36) and conceded 24 in 33 matches. The Porcupine Warriors are ranked as the sixth best away performers ahead of the clash and have kept clean sheets in their last two consecutive matches away from home (D2).
Vision FC are hosting Asante Kotoko at home in the league for the first time since the Tema-Based gained promotion into the Premier League this season.
