As Ghana works harder to deliver a world-class African Cup of Nations tournament in 2008, the country’s efforts has received a major seal of approval with the continent’s soccer body, CAF giving Ghana a positive rating.

At the Emergency Committee of the Confederation of African Football held at its headquarters on Thursday in Cairo, the highest decision and governing arm of the sport body expressed satisfaction with the construction of stadia and other facilities.

CAF’s Emergency Committee discussed a detailed progress report on Ghana’s state of work for the 26th edition of Africa’s biannual competition that gathers the best sixteen sides on the continent to compete for the coveted trophy.

Government and the Local Organising Committee –LOC, have been working hard to ensure that the month-long soccer competition between sixteen nations is managed efficiently and successfully.

The preparations of the tournament started some years back.

And Ghana’s LOC tasked with the massive job of providing stadiums, hotels, training sites, transportation, security, hospitality centres and other requirements continue to deliver by the minute.

Though concerns had been raised in the past over the slow pace of work, the Local Organising Committee say Ghana would be ready to host the rest of the world come some 12 months time.

But CAF’s positive rating is expected to be further boost for the LOC.

Even before the kick off in Accra, Government and the LOC, are have been strategizing to maximize the marketing potential of the tournament.

Ghana on Tuesday launched the CAN 2008 Business Club.

The exclusive club which has a membership of 25 is aimed at preparing and organizing the Ghanaian business community to properly tap into the tournament's economic opportunities.
