MTN FA Cup weekend: Nsoatreman battle Karela United, Legon Cities face Bechem United

Nsoatreman FC will host Karela United in the quarter final of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup at the Nana Amoah Konamansah Park in Nsoatre on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Nsoatreman FC have been very phenomenal in this season’s MTN FA Cup competition as they thrashed Division One League side Maana FC 3-0 at home in the Round of 64 while eliminating Victory Club Warriors in the Round 32. Maxwell Konadu's side came out victorious against Berekum Chelsea on penalty shootout in the Round of 16 before making it to the Quarters.

Karela United are also having their best campaign in the MTN FA Cup after beating Steadfast FC (3-2) in the Round of 64 while defeating Kasalgu Arrow Heads FC 5-1 to set the tone for another 2-0 win over Asante Kotoko in Tamale to secure the quarter final spot.

Nsoatreman FC have won 1 and lost 1 to Karela United going into this Cup match on Saturday with the winner set to face either Bechem United or Legon Cities in the semi-final.

Nsoatreman FC go into this game with a fully fit squad comprising Mohammed Abdul Rahaman, Richard Acquah, Bortey Acquaye, Stephan Diyou, Walid Neymah Fuseini, Mohammed Issakah, Meider Kwabena, Philip Ofori, Eric Osei Bonsu and star man Abdul Manaf Umar.

Legon Cities had a good start to life in this season’s Cup Competition as they beat Accra Lions 3-0 at home in an all Premier League encounter in the Round of 64. The Royals knocked out Koforidua based Division Two side Suhyen United 4 -0 to make the Round of 32 before defeating former champions Nania FC 2-1 to secure a quarter final spot.

Bechem United are 5th in the Premier League but have been outstanding in this season’s Cup Competition after thrashing Division One League side Debibi United 8-0 at home in the Round of 64. The Hunters went on to beat PAC Academy 3-0 in the round of 32 before winning in a penalty shootout over a strong-willed Division Two side Akwaboso Young Madrid.

Legon Cities are winless in their last 8 Premier League encounters against Bechem United since 2021/22 season.

Legon Cities boast Nicholas Mensah, Joseph Mereku, Kamal Suraje, Ramin Doobi, Rahim Abdul, Fredrick Akatuk, Frank Akoto, Stephen Asare, Morris Fuseini and Stephen Blankson.

The 1983 finalists pip Berekum City 1-0 in a very difficult game in the Round of 32 before another 1-0 win over Wa Power FC secured them a quarter-final slot. Bofoakwa Tano are yet to concede a goal in this season’s MTN FA Cup Competition following three clean sheets in the competition.

Skyy FC are aiming for their second semi-final on the spin after losing to eventual winners Dreams FC in the semis last season. The Daboase club is 3rd in Zone Two of the Access Bank Division One League having delivered a very impressive form in the Cup competition thus far.

Their journey began with a 2-0 win over FC Samartex 1996 in the Round of 64 and followed up with another 2-0 win over two-time winners Medeama SC in the Round of 32. Skyy FC continued their stunning form at Elmina where they beat Elmina Sharks on penalty shoot outs to secure a ticket to the quarter-final.

Winner of this encounter will lock horns with either champions Dreams FC or Soccer Intellectuals in the semi-final. Going into the game, Bofoakwa Tano boasts one victory over Skyy FC in all competitions.

Saaka Dauda who has established himself as a linchpin of the club with 8 Premier League goals this season is available for the clash on Sunday with the likes of Sammy Osae Akoto, Alhassan Ali, Emmanuel Ankrah, Emmanuel Agyenim Boateng, Najib Ibrahim, Solomon Obilitey, Kelvin Oppong, Ado Zack, Abdul Bashiru and Steven Owusu also hoping for a place in the starting line to impress.
