Upper West Region staged a remarkable comeback to beat Northern Region 2–1, securing their first victory of the MTN Elite U19 Championship as both teams exited the competition on Wednesday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Northern Region took an early lead in the 4th minute through Sumaila Abdallah, appearing poised to dominate and potentially shake up the Group A standings. However, Upper West responded with determination, led by their inspirational captain Desmond Suglo, who equalised in the 20th minute before firing home the decisive winner just five minutes later.
The spirited performance capped off Upper West’s campaign on a positive note, earning them their first three points of the tournament from four matches. Despite their strong start to the competition, Northern Region finished third in Group A with six points, also missing out on a semi-final berth.
With this result, Eastern Region and Brong Ahafo Region have sealed qualification to the semi-finals from Group A, setting the stage for an exciting knockout phase on Friday, October 31, 2025.
