The maiden edition of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship is officially underway at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, following a ceremonial kick-off on Friday, October 24, 2025.
The event was led by Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Member of Parliament for Ketu North, who was joined by Executive Council Members Samuel Aboabire and Gideon Fosu, as well as National Juvenile Committee Chairman Joe Salam Abubakar.
The competition began in thrilling fashion, as Eastern Region rallied from behind to defeat Upper West Region 5–2 in the opening match. The victory set an exciting tone for the 11-day tournament, which brings together 10 regional teams from across Ghana to compete for the coveted national title.
Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the Elite U-19 Championship represents a key pillar of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, which seeks to provide a structured pathway for young talents from grassroots football to the national and professional levels.
In addition to the opening ceremony, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Enoch Agyare Addo, along with members Michael Fiause and Samuel Owusu Amoah, were also in attendance to witness the kickoff of what promises to be a landmark event in Ghana’s youth football development calendar.
