Greater Accra Region secured a well-deserved bronze medal at the maiden edition of the MTN Elite U19 Championship after defeating Ashanti Region 2-0 in the third-place playoff on Sunday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

After a closely contested first half, the capital side took control of proceedings in the second period, displaying precision and composure to seal victory. The breakthrough came in the 47th minute, when the ever-impressive Yussif Saani calmly converted from the spot to give Greater Accra the lead.

Just ten minutes later, Mustapha Bunyaminu doubled the advantage with a well-taken finish in the 57th minute, completing a dominant second-half performance that ensured Greater Accra earned a podium finish in the historic competition.

The result served as sweet revenge for Felix Afotey Odai’s side, who had earlier lost 2-1 to Ashanti Region during the group stage. This time, the capital boys executed their game plan perfectly, blending tactical discipline with attacking flair to come out on top in the rematch.

Their third-place finish caps off an impressive campaign for Greater Accra, who were among the tournament’s standout teams, showcasing creativity, teamwork and resilience throughout the 11-day championship.

Running from October 23 to November 2, 2025, the MTN Elite U19 Championship featured ten regional teams from across Ghana, providing a vital platform for young footballers to showcase their talent, gain invaluable experience, and attract attention from national team selectors and professional scouts.
