Mini tournament kicks off today

The Ohene Djan stadium in Accra - one of the match venues for the 2008 African Cup of Nations - would be kept busy when the venue hosts the Zenith Bank 4-Nation International Tournament which kicks off today.

Ghana, Benin, Togo and the United Arab Emirates are the teams who would playing in the mini tournament spanning over a four-day period, November 17 and runs to November 21, with each side playing two games apiece for the $70,000 prize money.

Benin would engage the United Arab Emirates on Saturday in the first game of the mini-tournament at 17:00GMT in the 40,000-seater stadium, the same grounds that would host the opening and final games of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Host, Ghana would line up against Togo on Sunday in the second match of the tournament which kicks off on Saturday.

After the first round of matches, there would be a two-day rest period for the teams while tournament sponsors – Zenith Bank PLC, Gold Fields Ghana, MTN and textile producers, GTP, take up duties in charitable events.

Match action returns to the Ohene Djan stadium on Wednesday when the losers in the first two games clash for the 3rd and 4th positions at 15:00GMT.

The finals would be played between winners of the first round of games at 17:30 GMT.

Ghana’s four-nation international tournament would be broadcast on international satellite TV network, AfriSat after the South African channel sealed the deal to televise the competition.

The winner of the Zenith Bank 4-Nation International Tournament picks $70,000; the first runner-up takes home $50,000.
