Kumasi Asante Kotoko go top of the league summit for the first time this season after beating AshantiGold at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast.

The Porcupine Warriors managed a 1-0 win over the Miners on the last day of the 2006 season and thus secure a place for next year’s CAF/MTN Champions League competition.

Asante Kotoko would now to have to await the outcome of the outstanding fixture between archrivals, Hearts of Oak and Tema Youth before confirming themselves as champions.

Team captain, Edmund Owusu-Ansah against the run of play got the victory for Asante Kotoko when he scored in the 31st minute of the first half.

Two minutes after the opener, AshantiGold left Asante Kotoko off the hook when Emmanuel Osei Kuffour spurned a golden opportunity when he blew a chance that appeared difficult to miss than to score.

The lone goal separated both sides as the first half ended.

Back from recess, the Porcupine Warriors guarded their slim lone goal lead to end the game and leapfrog the Miners to the first position.
