Milovan names 22 for Lesotho game

In less than three months into his time in office as national coach, Milovan Rajevac comes to terms with the harsh realities of his job as he seeks to ensure the Black Stars a place in the group stages of the last round in the 2010 World Cup qualifying series.

Ghana, third on the table plays Lesotho at home on October 11 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium in the final Group 5 match with a good win expected to guarantee the Black Stars a place amongst the final 20 teams who would play for the five qualifying spots available to Africa at the 2010 World Cup.

Milovan Rajevac has named his second Ghana squad since taking over the Black Stars in August, making just a few changes to the team he announced for the last game against Libya.

A 22-member playing squad would carry Ghana’s hopes of reaching the last round of the World Cup series in the crucial home clash against Lesotho.

The Ghana manager revealed when he first arrived that he doesn’t intend to make wholesale changes to the squad and he has stuck to that as he keeps lots of the players he used against Libya while making a few additions.

Injuries to Michael Essien and Kaizer Chiefs defender, Jonathan Quartey coupled with the suspension of Laryea Kingston - picked up two yellow cards so far - has brought about changes to Milovan Rajevac's squad.

Despite their absence, some old members of the team make a return. Lyon defender, John Mensah who missed the Libya game through injury returns to the squad.

Matthew Amoah, scorer of six goals for club, NEC Breda in the Dutch Eredivise after four games is in contention of a starting place for Ghana.

The striker pulled out of the opening Group 5 match for Ghana because he was indisposed but has earned another call up from Milovan Rajevac.
