The agent for John Mensah says no agreement has been signed turning the Ghana captain's season-long loan at Sunderland into a permanent stay.

Mensah is currently on his second season-long loan at the Stadium of Light from Lyon with reports in France claiming that a deal was already in place for him to sign for Sunderland once the season was complete.

But his agent Fabian Piveteau has confirmed to skysports.com that nothing has been concluded for the Ghanaian defender who is enjoying a run in the first team after having missed a large chunk of the campaign due to injury.

"The reports in France are not true, it is not agreed," Piveteau told skysports.com.

"There was an option, where if he played 25 games then the deal would become permanent - but that is not possible now as there are not enough matches left in the season."

Piveteau explains that a deal could still be done, but Sunderland and Lyon would need to agree fresh terms.

"That matter is with the clubs, and what Lyon want - you will have to ask them."

He did confirm that Mensah was enjoying life on Wearside, adding: "He does like it there.

"He prefers to play and he has been doing that."
