Cameroonian import Frank Mbella scored in either half as Asante Kotoko recorded a 2-1 win against Legon Cities on Mach Day 9 of the Ghana Premier League at the theatre of Dreams in Dawu on Sunday.

The win gives the Porcupine Warriors their first win in three matches having failed to pick maximum points against Karela United, King Faisal and Real Tamale United.

Mbella, who scored his first goal against Real Tamale United in midweek, opened the scoring for Kotoko in the 29th minute after a great team play as he raced forward to get to the end of it before slotting home.

The lead lasted for only three points as Legon Cities fetched the equaliser in the 32nd minute courtesy of an error by goalkeeper Razak Abalora as Ahmed Rahman scored.

Legon Cities changed their approach to the game after the goal as they bombed forward and attacked the Kotoko goal area in search of a second goal but the array of attacks resulted in nothing as the first half ended 1-1.

Abalora made amends with a great save in the second half before Mbella snatched the victory for Kotoko in the 78th minute.

Asante Kotoko sit in third place with 17 points – three points behind leaders Aduana FC – though they have a game in hand against arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.

Asante Kotoko will next host WAFA at home on Match Day 10 of the Premier League.
