Match Report: Bechem United begin new season with win over Elmina Sharks

Bechem United played out a determined game to see off Elmina Sharks 2-0 in the week 1 of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season at the Fosu Gyeabour park in Bechem.

Goals from youngsters Kwadwo Asamoah and Prince Adu Kwabena, who was making his debut in the league, helped the homeside to break the winless jinx against the Elmina side.

The game got off to a pulsating start as the two sides looked to take control of the midfield.

A second caution to Ibrahim Suraj of Elmina Sharks on the 37th minute handed the advantage to the Hunters who capitalized on their numerical advantage to score the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute.

Asamoah received a short pass from Mensah just behind the Sharks penalty box before unleashing a low grounder to beat Martey Bawa in post for Sharks.

Bechem United came back stronger in the 2nd half and wasted several chances before Adu Kwabena scored the 2nd goal on the 79th minute. He connected beautifully a pass from returnee Hafiz Konkoni to give the homestars the much needed win.

Kwadwo Asamoah was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Speaking after the game, coach of Elmina Sharks,Yaw Acheampong, attributed his side's defeat to the numerical disadvantage and pledged to work hard to secure victory in their next game. Kwaku Danso, coach of Bechem United on the other hand attributed his side's victory to determination and discipline from his charges.
