The title race in the Northern Zone is getting keener after each round of matches and this weekend will not be an exception. With 14 Premier League games played by the 10 competing teams in the Zone, Pearl Pia Ladies lead the table with 27 points – three points richer than second placed Ampem Darkoa Ladies who are on 24 points.  The defending champions dropped to the second spot after losing 2-0 to the leaders in the top of the table clash last weekend. Frederica Torkudzor and Takia Zakaria got on target as Pearl Pia Ladies grabbed the three points to open a three point lead at the top of the table.

Here is what to expect on Matchday 15 in the Northern Zone:

NORTHERN LADIES VRS PRISONS LADIES

Prisons Ladies have another tough task on Friday when they tackle Northern Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. The matchday 15 fixture has the potential of determining the winner of the Zone as a win for Northern Ladies gives them the opportunity to challenge for the top spot. While a defeat to either side will affect their hopes of playing in the top four. Prisons Ladies are yet to lose a game in Tamale since last season but the current form of Northern Ladies poses a threat to that enviable record that has lasted for close to two seasons. Two points separate the two teams as Northern Ladies occupy the third spot with 22 points – two points ahead of Prisons Ladies who are sixth with 20 points.

ASHTOWN LADIES VRS DREAMZ LADIES

Ashtown Ladies will go head to head with city rivals Dreams Ladies at the Kokoase Park at Bantama. Both teams have been unconvincing in the second half of the season following some topsy-turvy performances that have affected their placing in the League log. Ashtown Ladies drew goalless against Prisons Ladies and will be hoping to get back to winning ways while Dream's Ladies aim for the points after losing to debutants Tamale Super Ladies last weekend. Ashtown Ladies are 7th with 19 points while Dreamz Ladies lie in 5th place with 21 points.

SUPREME LADIES VRS FABULOUS LADIES

The zone is set to witness a crunch fixture when Supreme Ladies host bottom placed Fabulous Ladies in Ashanti derby. The last time both sides met, Supreme Ladies beat Fabulous Ladies by a lone goal and Fabulous Ladies are eager to avenge that defeat by grabbing all the points to serve as a boost for their survival. As Fabulous Ladies battle their way from the bottom of the table, Supreme Ladies are also fighting to finish in the Top four to play in the Women’s League Super Cup. This will be an interesting derby as form is not something to go by when these two sides meet.

TAMALE SUPER LADIES VRS PEARLPIA LADIES

Debutants Tamale Super Ladies FC play host to rivals Pearlpia Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium. The Two teams will lock horns this week after winning their previous games in the lead up to this encounter - knowing that a win for either side will push them on the league log. Tamale Super Ladies needs the 3 points to survive relegation while PearlPia Ladies also needs the points in to keep their place at the top of the table.

AMPEM DARKOA LADIES VRS CANDY SOCCER ACADEMY

Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have a game to remember this weekend against Candy Soccer Academy at the Ohene Ameyaw Park. The champions are still bleeding after the 2-0 loss to Pearl Pia Ladies in Tamale and hoping to return to winning ways after going two matches without a win. The draw against Fabulous Ladies and the 2-0 defeat to Pearl Pia Ladies pushed them to the second spot – three points behind Pearl Pia Ladies who are on 27 points. Fabulous Ladies have been very poor this season having managed only 3 wins in 14 games. The title race is getting hotter and knowing a win against Candy Soccer Academy will take them back to the summit of the table.
