The 2022/23 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League is here again with some exciting fixtures to ahead to in the Northern Zone. New entrants Candy Soccer Academy and Tamale Super Ladies aim for a smooth take off whiles holders Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Fabulous Ladies and Prisons Ladies keep an eye on the ultimate prize. Here is a preview of the opening weekend of matches in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
Pearl Pia Ladies vs Prisons Ladies
Pearlpia Ladies FC will host Prisons Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Meetings between these sides have always been tough as two goals were produced at the same venue last season when they clashed. The first-round encounter ended in a one all draw in Tamale before Pearl Pia Ladies snatched a 2:1 away win at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
Tamale Super Ladies vs Ashtown Ladies
Tamale Super Ladies will be shooting for the maximum points when they wrestle Ashtown Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale as they hope to replicate their Regional Championship winning streak in the Women's Premier League. Ashtown Ladies will push to maintain their outstanding record in Tamale having held their own against Northern Ladies and Pearl Pia Ladies in previous encounters.
Supreme Ladies vs Candy Soccer Academy
Kumasi-based Supreme Ladies will begin their campaign against newbies Candy Soccer Academy at the Bantama Kookoase AstroTurf. The team which narrowly survived relegation last season would wish to start on a good footing while Candy Soccer Academy try to make a great debut.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies vs Northern Ladies
Last season’s opening game was one to forget for Ampem Darkoa Ladies as a defensive blunder resulted in an own goal that gifted opponents, Pearpia Ladies the three points. Here the defending Champions will face survivals, Northern Ladies at home and will wish for a groovy start while the ‘Pride of the North’ look to come in stronger in the season opener.
Fabulous Ladies vs Dreamz Ladies
The first Kumasi derby comes off this weekend as Fabulous Ladies host Dreamz Ladies on match day one. Both sides had a great time out last season producing the top scorer in Princess Owusu and the season’s Discovery in Stella Nyamekye respectively. Dreamz Ladies however, proved superior on the pitch after producing a master class performance to record two victories against their opponents - they won 3:0 and 2:0 in the two matches of last season.
