Claude Le Roy has deflected off the favourites tag placed around his team as he gets ready to lead the Black Stars in search of a fifth African Cup of Nations title.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference at the team’s camp base in Accra on the eve of the opening game against Guinea on Sunday, the experienced manager says Ghana are favourites by virtue of being the host nation as he seeks to enjoy massive support from the fans.

"We're favourites because we're hosting the competition. A lot of teams are here with a huge potential and that's why for us it'll be a big help to get the fans behind us.

"But sometimes it's up to the players to get the supporters backing them," Le Roy, flanked by his players said on Saturday afternoon.

Ghana would be expected to deliver at the 40,000-seater Ohene Djan Stadium after been tagged as favourites but Le Roy says his team is unconcerned.

"We're not afraid, we're happy, no nerves - it's only a game."

Le Roy would be missing one of his key players, Stephen Appiah for the tournament and he admits it’s not been easy fashioning out a game plan with his regular captain.

"Sure with Stephen out it means I as coach have to find a new balance. But I'm fortunate, I have a lot of players who can bring something to the national team.

"I have a lot of possibilities."

Even though the Frenchman has a lot of possibilities, he is not underestimating the strength of Robert Nouzaret’s Syli Nationale.

"Guinea are a skilful football team. They've got some of the best players in the French league. It's a well balanced side and we know it will be very complicated.

"They have players who can create problems, like Pascal Feindouno, but it's important we get a win on the table."
