Claude Le Roy has always made it to the quarter-finals of every African Cup of Nations that he has been to as he remains confident of going past the last eight stage at his sixth Nations Cup appearance.

The Frenchman will lead Ghana to face West African rivals; Nigeria in Sunday’s first quarter-finals game at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra as he expects to go past the Super Eagles.

"I have gotten to the quarter-finals in all my previous tournaments. Now the most important task is to get past this quarter-final," he said.

Le Roy, a Cup of Nations winning coach with Cameroon in 1988, says he wants to win the championship again as the tournament narrows down to eight teams beginning this weekend.

"I'm dreaming of being champion once more."

However, the coach who turns 60 next month doesn’t want to be out of the tournament before celebrating that important day.

"I don't want to be out before my birthday," said Le Roy, who turns 60, four days before the final in Accra.
