Kotoko pull important win over Lions

Asante Kotoko pulled an important win on Wednesday over Heart of Lions to boost their title chances as they now reduce the 11-point deficit at the top to eight.

The Porcupine Warriors bounced back from their weekend loss to Kessben to beat Lions 2-1 at the Kpando Park in an outstanding premier league fixture, a win that sends them third on the Glo Premier League standings.

Francis Akwaffo put Kotoko ahead in the first half, lifting a freekick past goalkeeper Joseph Addo on the stroke of half time.

The champions returned from the break determined to hold onto their lead but Kofi Nti Boakye leveled up for the home side after six minutes.

Kotoko dominating play managed to restore their lead when substitute Alex Asamoah struck the winner as the game neared the end.

Despite the defeat, Lions still cling onto second place as they trail the leaders, Hearts of Oak by seven points.

In the other outstanding fixture, Eleven Wise managed a 1-0 win over Tema Youth at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.

Winfred Dormon headed in the James Bissue’s cross after 49 minutes to give the home team a deserved win.
