Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko both notched up wins to set up a thrilling clash as the country's biggest sporting rivals meet next Sunday in the Premiership.

The Glo Premier League title appears a distant dream for both sides but any meeting between them is always a sell out.

Both sides would have relished competing for the title at this stage of the competition as they watch Berekum Chelsea extend their lead at the top to 13 points with eight games left after winning 1-0 against Medeama SC today.

A second half goal by Bismark Idan landed the Berekum side all three points as they push for their first title since joining the elite ranks two seasons ago.

Asante Kotoko's improved form continued at home where they easily dispatched 10-man Aduana Stars by a 3-0 victory.

Frank Boateng gave Kotoko a first half lead before Nii Adjei and veteran midfielder Stephen Oduro scored a goal apiece in the second half. Aduana's Bernard Dong Bortey was sent off in the first half.

And the result would give Kotoko a perfect boost going into the big clash against rivals Hearts of Oak in Accra.

Goals by Godfred Asante and Bright Nsiah helped Heart of Lions to a 2-0 win at home over Berekum Arsenals.

Ex-Ghana international Emmanuel Osei Kuffour scored the only goal to earn Ebusua Dwarfs a 1-0 win against bottom side B.A Stars in Cape Coast.

All Stars seemed to have discovered their spark at home, beating New Edubiase 2-0 after a run of poor results recently.

Frank Safo Gyamfi and Samuel Nortey scored both goals for the Blues to bring some joy in Wa.

But there was no joy for Mighty Jets as their league debut at the Akosombo Park ended in defeat.

The premiership's newcomers never recovered from Abdul Wahab's first half goal for King Faisal as they lost 1-0.

AshantiGold moved third on the standings after beating Real Tamale United 2-0 in a late kick off at the Len Clay Stadium.

Yakubu Mohammed and Theophilus Annobil scored for the Miners to RTU a place above the bottom side.

Earlier on Saturday, Hearts of Oak made it two consecutive wins after beating Liberty Professionals 2-1 in a local derby.

Douglas Nkrumah gave Hearts a 1-0 lead by halftime from the spot.

Midfielder Esme Mends increased the tally to 2-0 in the second half before substitute goalkeeper Agyei got the consolation for Liberty from a spot kick late on in the game.

The defeat leaves Liberty just a point above the relegation zone but for the Phobians, it serves a good build up when Kotoko shows up at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
