AshantiGold SC were last week bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup by Salitas FC from Burkina Faso. The Miners drew blank (0-0) in Obuasi and lost 3-1 in the return leg in Ouagadougou.

Their campaign came crashing after two games, something they didn’t envisage as it came too early in the competition. For now, they have to turn attention to the Ghana Premier League.

Coach Milovan Cirkovich and his players have an opportunity to move up the table as they battle King Faisal this afternoon at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi. They recorded an impressive recovery win against Elmina Sharks on Sunday after coming from behind to beat them 4-2 at home.

Youngster Dacosta Boadu hit the headlines on Sunday after he scored a brace on his debut for miners. Appiah McCarthy and David Abagna also got their names on the scoresheet against Elmina Sharks. AshantiGold SC is one of the teams blessed with quality and experience when it comes to players.

Robert Dabuo, Amos Addai, Abdul Bashiru, Richard Osei Agyemang, Yaw Annor and Empem Dacosta bring quality, dexterity and experience to any team in the League.

Their standout performance in the League was on match day two when they twice came from behind to draw (2-2) against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports stadium.

Former Premier League top scorer Hans Kwofie who joined the miners on a free, has fitted in perfectly for the departed Shafiu Mumuni.

King Faisal were beaten 2-0 by leaders Karela United FC at Ainyinase on Sunday to condemn them to their second defeat of the season. They lost 4-3 to WAFA in Sogakope, drew (1-1) against Aduana Stars in Techiman before recording their first win against Inter Allies in a 1-0 home win.

The ‘Insha Allah’ boys have been one of the most inconsistent sides in the League, blending an effective young squad with some experienced players.

They have conceded seven goals and scored five in their first four games putting them in a tight situation against a free scoring AshantiGold SC side that have banged in 8 goals. However, they also have some defensive issues to deal with having leaked six goals in three games.

The game is scheduled for the Obuasi Len Clay stadium at 3pm.
