Champions Accra Hearts of Oak were held by Bechem United on Match Day 11 of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday.

The phobians who have two games in hand were on a good run following three wins and draw in their last four Premier League matches.

The game against Bechem United was the first for Hearts of Oak at home since their 2-0 win over J.S Saoura in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, November 28, 2022.

Victories over Elmina Sharks, Accra Lions and Berekum Chelsea put them in a very commanding state ahead of Sunday’s as they expected to bounce back to winning ways after being held 2-2 by Dreams FC on Christmas eve. However, profligacy in front of goal did them more harm against the Hunters.

The result is a good one for Bechem United who remain in the top four while Hearts are now nine points off the top with two games in hand.

King Faisal scored two spectacular goals in the first half to beat Bibiani Gold Stars 2-1 on Sunday to move to the top of the Premier League table and to maintain their unbeaten home record.

Ibrahim Osman and Zubairu Ibrahim scored within 38 minutes to give King Faisal a well-deserved lead before the break.

Osman Ibrahim – on loan from Asante Kotoko put Faisal in front in the 21st minute with a superb finish before Zubairu Ibrahim doubled the lead 14 minutes later. Zubairu connected a neat pass from Ibrahim Osman to increase the tally for the Insha Allahu boys.

Godfred Kyei pulled one back for Bibiani Gold Stars in the second half but that wasn’t enough to give them a point as King Faisal held on to win 2-1 at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

In Tamale Real Tamale United came from behind to snatch a point against Dreams FC at the Aliu Mahama stadium. RTU took an early lead through Ronald Frimpong in the 33rd minute but Dreams FC equalized before the break as Issah Ibrahim smashed home from close range to bring the visitors level.

Ali Huzaif doubled the lead for Dreams FC in the 58th Dankwa Badu scored 10 minutes later to make it 2-2. Chances were few for both sides as they shared the spoils in Tamale.

At Sogakope WAFA bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Asante Kotoko to beat Elmina Sharks 2-0 on Sunday.

The Academy boys scored in either half of the game to condemn the basement club to another defeat on the road. Justice Torsutsey converted from the spot in the 45th minute after Sampson Agyapong’s ball was handled by a Sharks defender.

The creator of the first goal scored the second for WAFA in the 51st minute – Agyapong collected a pass from Emmanuel Ofori Agyemang, entered the box before nutmegging Elmina Sharks goalkeeper Maxwell Adom for the second goal.

Karela United defeated Eleven Wonders 4-2 at the CAM Park Aiyinase.

The home side scored in the 3rd minute through Samuel Atta Kumi before Richard Berko made it 2-0 on 42 minutes to end the first with a 2-0 advantage.

Back from recess, Richard Berko again got his name on the score sheet as he scored his second and the third of the day for Karela United.

The visitors pulled a goal back through Laar Ibrahim but their celebration was short-lived after Umar Basiru scored from the spot kick to make it 4-1 in favour of Karela United.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Ganiu Abbas scored for Eleven Wonders but that was too little too late for them to stage a comeback as Karela United held on to win 4-2 at home.

Earlier on New Year’s Day, George Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey scored in either half as Asante Kotoko beat Aduana FC 2-0 at Nana Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa.

There shall be three matches on Monday, January 3, 2022 in Obuasi, Berekum and Dawu respectively.

AshantiGold SC will be at home against Medeama SC at the Len Clay while Legon Cities host Accra Lions in the Accra derby at the theatre of Dreams at Dawu. Berekum Chelsea will have a bite of the cherry against when they host Great Olympics at the Golden City Park.
