Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu was named Player of the Match following her outstanding performance in Ghana's 2-0 victory over Cape Verde in their opening Group C match of the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Bonsu delivered a commanding display at the heart of Ghana's defence, making crucial interceptions, winning key duels and helping the Black Queens keep a clean sheet in a confident opening performance.
Goals from Doris Boaduwaa and a Cape Verde own goal secured all three points for Ghana, but it was Bonsu's composure and defensive solidity that earned her the individual honour.
The victory gives the Black Queens a perfect start to the WAFCON 2026 campaign as they look ahead to their next Group C fixture.
