Cecil Jones Attuquayefio is hopeful of returning to the game after undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

The former Ghana and Benin national team coach has been absent for some time now, a situation which has contributed to Liberty Professionals’ poor form and struggle to beat the drop in the Glo Premier League.

But the veteran coach says he is making good progress and expects to be back in business when the new season begins.

“I have almost recovered,” said the coach who guided Hearts of Oak to all of their only continental successes.

“The season will be over this weekend and I’m sure I would bounce back by next season.”

Concerns have been raised about the rate of progression by the coach leading to calls for a review of his health status outside Ghana. There was the idea of raising funds to pay for his treatment abroad.

But Jones is not happy with the way the issue is been handled in the media and says he has confidence in his local doctors.

“There’s a whole lot of stories about people making contributions to enable them send me abroad. But I thought that was over the bar. I’m been sponsored by Liberty Professionals.”

“I don’t think there’s the need for me (going abroad) unless my doctors tell me I have to go abroad. For now, they are working. We are almost home,” Jones said.
