Isaac Mensah yet again made the headlines for Hearts of Oak after coming off the bench to score the match winner against Liberty Professionals on match day 16 of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

The former Nkoranza Warriors forward took only six minutes to announce his presence by prodding home the only goal of the match from the edge of the box.

Liberty Professionals had the game under control in the early exchanges. Speedster Abraham Wayo came close to giving the hosts the lead but his effort was deflected away, before Simon Asamoah pulled a save from Hearts goalie Richard Attah.

Hearts of Oaks best effort in the half came when Emmanuel Nettey’s drive was calmly collected by Liberty goalkeeper Kofi Baah.

With just ten minutes to the break, Kweku Karikari and Abraham Wayo combined to create a great chance which the latter failed to put into the net.

In the second half, Liberty Coach David Ocloo, brought on Satar Ahmed for Nii Laryea, and Brite Andoh replaced Ernest Danso.

For Hearts of Oak, Benjamin Afutu came on for William Dankyi.

Raddy Ovouka came close to fetching the first goal of the game but his strike rattled the crossbar.

With 12 minutes of play remaining, Isaac Mensah was introduced, stepping into the shoes of Kwadjo Obeng Jnr.

Mensah took the opportunity by tapping home just six minutes after coming on to hand the Phobians an important lead.

Samuel Nii Noi threw his last substitute on after replacing Patrick Razak with Michele Sarpong.

The game ended 1-0 with the Phobians recording back to back wins for the first time since January 2, 2021.

Hearts now sit in 6th in the table with 23 points, heading into Sunday’s game against arch rivals Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports stadium.
