The Football Association (GFA) has significantly increased the financial rewards for clubs competing in the Ghana Premier League, with the 2026/27 champions set to take home GH¢3 million in prize money at the end of the season.
The runners-up will receive GH¢1 million, while the team that finishes third will be rewarded with GH¢800,000, in what represents a major boost to the financial incentives available to clubs competing at the highest level of Ghanaian domestic football.
The new prize structure was announced at the FA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku. The decision forms part of the Association’s broader commitment to increasing investment in domestic football and improving the financial strength of clubs.
Importantly, the financial rewards will not be limited to the top three teams. Clubs finishing from fourth to 10th position will also receive prize monies determined by their final positions on the league table at the end of the 2026/27 campaign. This ensures that more clubs benefit financially from their performances throughout the season and provides additional incentives for teams to compete strongly until the final day.
The enhanced prize structure is expected to give clubs greater financial motivation while making league performance more valuable. Beyond the prestige of winning the Ghana Premier League, the increased rewards could provide champions and other high-performing clubs with additional resources to strengthen their squads, improve their operations and prepare for domestic and continental competitions.
The initiative further demonstrates the GFA’s determination to create a more financially sustainable domestic football environment. By increasing prize money and ensuring that rewards extend beyond the top three positions, the Association is seeking to make success on the pitch translate into tangible financial benefits for clubs, while encouraging greater competitiveness across the league.
With each Premier League club also set to receive GH¢1 million in support ahead of the new season, the enhanced prize-money package forms part of a wider investment programme aimed at giving clubs a stronger financial foundation and building a more competitive, commercially viable and sustainable Ghana Premier League.
