Hearts of Oak seal a Premier League title success by getting the points they needed against Sporting Mirren - and the Phobian celebration only started after just 48 seconds into the start of the match in an afternoon gripped by anxiety.

The win ensures that they got closer of Kotoko's long-time record of 21 titles, but a nine-game winless run ensured they did not earn their prize without a fight.

A string of poor runs had left Hearts with more work to do against Mirren, already relegated even before the last day of the season as nerves jangled in the closing stages.

Hearts’ misfiring attacker, Samuel Affum, so often in the news for all the misses in the opening half of the season, delivered a fine performance just when the Phobians needed it most when he hit a brace to help his side to a 2-0 win.

And the Ohene Djan Stadium erupted in ecstasy at the final whistle as a 20th Premier League success was confirmed.

Affum, scored the season’s fastest goal when he slotted in after 48 seconds to put the Phobians in the lead. The attacker was on target again in the 38th minute connecting a pass from Tawrick Jibril.

The win was the first for Hearts since May 24 when they last won at home.

The new champions can now concentrate on building their team as they mount a return to Africa where they play in the Champions League.

But there was no joy for Swedru fans as Gamba All Blacks joined Tema Youth and Sporting Mirren into relegation. All three sides would play in the first division, thus the second tier of Ghana football next season.

Real Tamale United, AshantiGold and Hasaacas all avoided the drop on the final day.
