Hayatou gets 2010 role

Confederation of African Football president, Issa Hayatou has been appointmented as chairperson of the FIFA World Cup Organising Committee.

With this latest appointment, the CAF president who has worked on the International Olympic Committee for a number of years will head the the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee.

South Africa will host the World Cup, the first in Africa.

The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) immediately welcomed the news of Hayatou’s appointment to this important position.

“We welcome the appointment of Issa Hayatou and we are very happy that he is the first African chairperson of Fifa’s World Cup Organising Committee. We have worked well with Mr Hayatou for many years and we look forward to strengthening that relationship even more as we host the Fifa World Cup in 2010,” said Danny Jordaan, the chief executive officer of the 2010 Fifa World Cup Organising Committee.
