Asamoah Gyan is happy to have led an 'intelligent' Ghana team to get back in contention for a second round at the World Cup.

Ghana drew 2-2 with Germany in Fortaleza on Saturday to earn their first point at the tournament following their opening defeat in Group G to the United States.

Gyan's goal against the Germans in the 800th tournament game made him the first African player to score at three World Cups and tied Roger Milla of Cameroon as the top-scoring African in World Cup history.

He also notched his tenth game at the tournament after making his debut in 2006 is now the most-capped Ghana player at the tournament.

"It was a perfect game for us and I am happy [with my record]. It is not easy to score goals at the World Cup," Gyan said.

"I missed a couple of chances in the first game and was anxious but I was more focused, as a striker everyone expects me to score and that is what happened."

Reflecting on the draw which hands Ghana chance of reaching the Round of 16 for the third-straight time with a game against Portugal to come next week, Gyan believes it was a god reaction from the Black Stars following their opening setback.

"We believed in ourselves. We came to win against a top German side and had to fight till the end of the game and I think we were a bit close and it was a fair game," said the Black Stars captain.

"Tactically, we were a bit perfect. We had to stay back and wait for them. What we planned really worked."
