Asamoah Gyan ended his six-match goal drought for Sunderland with a 55th minute header in their 4-2 league win over Wigan on Saturday.

Sunderland had endured a poor run which has seen them pick a only point from nine games, but Gyan and his colleagues ended that bad run style as they pushed Wigan back into the relegation zone.

Gyan equalised for Sunderland, when he rose to meet Steed Malbranque's cross from the right after Mohammed Diamé had put Wigan in front after 53 minutes.

But the Ghanaian striker was later on replaced by national teammate, Sulley Muntari in the 64th minute after he pulled up with a hamstring injury.

Muntari, then went on to set up Sunderland's third goal before Stéphane Sessègnon scored from the spot to put the game beyond their opponents.
