Ghana striker, Asamoah Gyan has often found his name on the scorecards for the Black Stars since he made his debut in 2003, making him one of the most consistent performers for the team.

However, Gyan, who scored Ghana’s first goal at the 2006 World Cup is yet to hit target for the Black Stars on home soil after scoring on his senior debut against Somalia on November 19, 2003.

This remains a puzzle that the 21-year-old striker is trying to fix. And Gyan hopes to use the African Cup of Nations which gets underway on Sunday as the perfect grounds to end that run.

The player who is in contention for a starting place in Claude Le Roy’s team for the tournament’s opening match against Guinea told kickoffghana that he hopes to score on home soil for the senior team again.

“There are some things in football that you cannot explain and maybe this is one of them. I am just hoping that I can score again for Ghana at home because it has been such a long time since I did,” he says.

Despite his hopes of attaining a personal target, Gyan just wants to help Ghana achieve success even if he missed out on a personal glory.

“For me just playing in the Nations Cup is a huge thing. It is my first tournament and very important for my career. I want to go home with a winners medal, I want to be remembered as one of the best players of this tournament and even though it is a big responsibility I think I can carry the team on my shoulders with my goals.”
