Ghana, unlike previous performances ended their World Cup campaign on Thursday in the group stages but the emergence of new stars has given hope of a bright future.

The Black Stars endured a frustrating bottom finish in their group as they bowed out in the preliminary round, the first time in their World Cup history.

Four years ago, a Ghana team infused with youth went all the way to the quarter-final in South Africa.

Asamoah Gyan, who was part of the party four years ago and has featured at every World Cup for Ghana believes the national team can pick themselves up again and return to the big stage.

"We've got young, quality players who can come back strongly and die for the nation once again," Gyan said after the 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the final group match on Thursday in Brasilia.

"I would thank the supporters who came to support us and hopefully, maybe next four years, we will come back."

Ghana's exit remains a blow for Gyan, who scored his sixth World Cup goal and is now the highest-scoring African in the World Cup's history, surpassing the five scored by Cameroon's Roger Milla.

"We are very disappointed. We have to go home and come back stronger," said the Ghana captain.

"We came here to win but unfortunately we lost. We have just go home and relax. Now we are out of the competition."
