Asamoah Gyan hopes Ghana becomes the first African nation to win at Wembley when the Black Stars play England on Tuesday.

Ghana will be England’s eighth African opponent, following in the footsteps of Egypt, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Only three of those – Cameroon, Nigeria and Egypt – have played at Wembley.

The game, an international friendly is the first meeting between both countries at senior level though there's been competition at the junior levels in the past.

Gyan, who plies his trade in the Barclays Premier League with Sunderland after joining in a record £13million-plus move from Rennes, says playing at Wembley can be likened to the World Cup.

"We did so well at the World Cup. Before, people didn't know Ghana and we have proved to everyone by what we did at the World Cup that we are capable of doing something big.

"That's what we demonstrated at the World Cup and there will be much respect for us because we did very well.

"In football, anything can happen, so we will just go there and make sure we play our normal game against England," the Ghana striker said.

A good game is expected even though Fabio Capello's side has lost a good number of some high-profile regulars.

"We promise we are going to give them a good match and we will see what happens," said Gyan, who will be playing at Wembley for the first time.

"Everybody is expecting something positive. It is like a World Cup to Ghanaians because they have been looking forward to this game for a long time.

"We did so well in the World Cup and they would like to see more.

"But we are not playing an easy side, so it's a challenge to us. We have to demonstrate to them that what we did at the World Cup wasn't luck, we knew what we were doing.

"We have to prove to everyone what we are capable of."

And win for Ghana against England would represent for Gyan a greater feeling.

"I am not going to predict - but even if I don't score and my country wins, I will be OK." he said.
