Avram Grant has been unveiled in Accra as the new coach of the Black Stars, after agreeing a 27-month deal with the Ghana Football Association.

Grant joins Ghana in his second stint as a national coach, having previously managed the Israeli team.

The 59-year-old coach becomes the 32nd head coach of the Black Stars.

Speaking on Wednesday at the press conference, Grant expressed confidence in the team’s chances in the 2015 AFCON tournament despite the tough group in which Ghana finds itself.

“It is not an easy draw. It is the group of death. They are very good teams. South Africa qualified unbeaten. Senegal is a good team. I saw two of Algeria’s games at the World Cup and they were very good. It will be difficult for us but it will be very difficult for our opponent too”, he said.

Grant further noted that the team will do everything within his power to win the 2015 African Nations Cup but warned that it won’t be the main objective, adding that developing football in Ghana is the long-term target.

“My job long term is taking care of developing football in this country. We have to put together a process that would result in our teams playing better football. Of course, we will go into every match at the tournament to win. A draw is not an option, but that is not the long-term goal. Developing football to make it better is the aim.”

The former Chelsea and West Ham manager also said he will thrive to make the Black Stars play attractive football.

“I believe in good football and good football means good technique but you need balance. The quality is here. If you look at the quality in this team the players know their lot so we will try to play attractive football. My theory is that we need balance. That when we lose the ball we don’t concede goals,’’ he stressed.

“I am here for two years and three months and hope everybody will be happy with me. In the meantime we have targets and I hope I can achieve them so we continue,” the new Black Stars coach added.
