Headline sponsor of the Black Stars, Goldfields Ghana Limited have taken the lead to aid Ghana's preparations towards the World Cup finals with a $560,000 financial support.

Goldfields, having backed Ghana in the run up to and throughout its debut at the 2006 World Cup in Germany are hopeful that the support will help the team live the dream of going past their last performance when the competition starts in South Africa next month.

According to the local mining company with operations in Tarkwa and Damang, in the Western part of the country, the package will go into team preparations, player bonuses and other expenses.

“For us from the branding point of view, the further Ghana goes, the better Goldfields gets known and I would like them to win of course. Just imagine what will happen when Ghana wins, maybe there will be a spin off for us and they will say Goldfields sponsored to make it possible,” Goldfields’ Corporate Affairs manager Sven Lunsche said.

The Black Stars will begin camping in Paris next week with a 30-man provisional team called up by Milovan Rajevac.
