The start is near for Ghana as the Black Stars make their second consecutive World Cup finals.

Following a debut success four years ago in Germany, the Black Stars will be expected to once again make the continent proud when they take to the field on June 13 in their opening group game against Serbia.

Lots of planning and funding have been sunk in to help the Black Stars achieve their targets but one of the team's main contributors, Gold Fields Ghana, the headline sponsor aside their financial support since 2005 are rallying the entire nation behind the team.

The mining firm with operations in in Tarkwa & Damang in the Western Region is urging fans to turn up and raise their flags in support of the Black Stars.

A statement from Executive Vice President and West African operations, Peter Turner says: "We also recognize the crucial role the fans play in the team’s performance. This is why I am calling on every Ghanaian to throw his weight behind the team in its push for excellence at Africa’s first World Cup.’
