The June edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, has seen Ghana, former lords on the continent slip into second position after dropping two places on the world ranking table.

Ghana are now Africa’s second-best side after enjoying four months at the summit of the continents ranking table. The Black Stars have been overtaken by Cameroon to the number one position with Egypt and Ivory Coast following Ghana in that order.

Two successive defeats in international friendly matches have accounted for Ghana’s drop but an impressive start to the 2010 African Nations Cup and FIFA World Cup qualifier, which is already underway, is expected to bolster the Black Stars’ points build up in the subsequent rankings.

Also, with the start of the European Championship in Austria and Switzerland, the ranking is likely to see some changes in the top spots.

Ghana and Cameroon still remain Africa’s only presence within the top 20 as European sides continue to dominate.

On the world stage, Ghana are placed 16th, having lost a total of 24 points within the past month.

Argentina have extended their lead over second-placed Brazil by 46 points while Italy hold onto third place on the world stage.

According to FIFA, as a result of the intensive preparations for the upcoming EURO 2008 and the qualifiers for South Africa 2010, more than 100 international 'A' matches have been played in the last few weeks.

FIFA further says that up to the beginning of June, a total of 347 international 'A' matches were taken into account in compiling the world ranking for this year.
