Ghana seeded, placed in Group A

Hosts Ghana, would be based in the capital, Accra, during next year’s African Cup of Nations finals following the announcement of the seeding system for Friday’s draw.

The Confederation of African Football, Africa’s soccer governing body on Thursday named Ghana among the four top-seeded teams for the competition to be staged in four major cities across the country.

Ghana, chasing a fifth CAN title success are placed in group A.

The Black Stars, who are making their sixteenth appearance African Cup of Nations appearance together with holders Egypt, Nigeria and Tunisia make up the four top-seeded teams.

Four-time winners Cameroon head the list in the second tier of seeds along with Ivory Coast, Morocco and Senegal.

The third tier is made up of Guinea, Mali, South Africa and Zambia while the last tier compromises Angola, Benin, Namibia and Sudan.

The Sudanese are making their debut after more than three decades of failing to qualify.

The draw for the 2008 tournament will be made in Accra on 19 October.

One team from each tier will be allocated in a group.

The seedings are determined by past African Nations Cup finals performances.
