Ghana seeded for CHAN draw

Ghana has been seeded for today's draw of the 2011 African Nations Championship - CHAN.

The draw for the second edition of the competition designed by CAF for only home-based players of its member countries will be held in Khartoum, Sudan, Saturday evening.

CAF has confirmed that the Black Stars, losing finalist in the maiden competition will be placed in either Group B or D as the top seeded side.

"According to their results in the 1st Edition CHAN 2009 , Ghana the finalist and Senegal the semi-finalist will be placed in the level 1 teams and will be the top seeded teams of groups B and D. A draw will then be done to determine which of these two countries shall be awarded the letter B1 and which one will have the letter D1," as CAF explained the draw procedures and seedings for the drawing of lots.

Hosts, Sudan,is the top seeded team of group A and DR Congo, champions are the top seeded team of group C

According to Caf, the remaining twelve countries will be categorized into three hats according to the following criteria in order of priority:

- Results in the 1st Edition CHAN 2009 - Zonal Separation as determined by CAF statutes.

Caf will also take into account the Fifa ranking of the national teams in order to determine their respective levels:

On this basis the hats number two, three and four will respectively be as follows:

- Pot two : Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Zimbabwe

- Pot three: Angola, Cameroun, Gabon and South Africa

- Pot four : Mali, Niger, Rwanda and Uganda

The 16 qualified teams including hosts, Sudan will be housed into four groups of four teams. The tournament takes places from 4-25 February, 2011.
