Claude Le Roy has left Kumasi with an 18-man squad for the reverse fixture of the African Nations Championship qualifier against Niger.

The local Black Stars left Kumasi - Ghana's second largest city - where the team had been preparing for the game after midday on Friday.

Lots of second leg matches in the qualifiers for the African Nations Championship would be played on the continent this weekend.

Ghana plays Niger on Sunday in the return game after having beaten the Nigeriens 2-0 in the first leg game of the preliminary round match at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The first leg win strengthens Ghana’s quest of reaching the first round stage of the qualifying campaign though an away goal would be more crucial for the Black Stars.

On the team is Eric Bekoe, who leads the scorers chart in the Ghanaian premiership though he is yet to score for the national side after two games. But the striker believes he would come good in subsequent games for the Black Stars.

“It happens in football and there’s nothing one can do to change the situation. You have to remain calm and play on.

“Top players miss goal scoring chances. With this performance, I am just going to do my homework well and prepare for any future assignments,” says Eric Bekoe, who is expected to play a role in Ghana’s hopes of reaching the first round qualifiers.

Also making the team is rising teenager, Taufiq Jebril of Accra Hearts of Oak. The 15 year-old attacker made the list of players selected by Claude Le Roy for the game in Niamey this Sunday.

The local Black Stars rounded up their preparations for this game with a 2-1 win over local side, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who sit at the summit of the Onetouch Premier League table.

The Africa Nations Championships is a new tournament designed by CAF for only home-based players of its member countries and it will hosted by Ivory Coast from the 22nd of February till the 8th of March 2009.
