Ghana have cancelled their planned pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly match against German top-flight side Freiburg.

The Black Stars were scheduled to play the Bundesliga side on Wednesday hours before they depart for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

However, coach Avram Grant has decided to call off the friendly in the wake of the growing knocks suffered by players in training.

The precautionary decision comes in the wake of the knock suffered by captain Asamoah Gyan during training.

Even though Gyan continued to train, coach Grant is not keen on risking his players with Africa's flagship tournament looming.

With some few days before the start of the competition in Equatorial Guinea, Grant has decided to protect his players from likely injuries.

The Black Stars will train on Wednesday morning before departing to Equatorial Guinea later in the afternoon.

The Ghana national team is expected to arrive in Equatorial Guinea capital Malabo on Wednesday night before travelling to their team base of Mongomo.

The Black Stars have been camping in the Spanish city of Sevilla since the start of the month in preparation for the tournament.
