GFG backs Black Stars to win in Tripoli

Headline sponsor of the Black Stars, Gold Fields Ghana Limited is backing the national team to produce a positive result against Libya on Friday in the qualifiers for the 2010 Africa Nations Cup and World Cup competitions.

The mining company today fulfilled its contractual obligation to the Black Stars with the release of a cash component of the sponsorship package to the Ghana Football Association.

An amount of $150,000 has been paid by the Headline sponsor cater for the bonuses, airfares, allowances and other costs to be borne by the team on their trip to Tripoli for the September 5 clash in Group 5.

Gold Fields Ghana’s Corporate Affairs Director, Tony Aubynn remains hopeful that the Black Stars will record a result in Tripoli this on Friday, which will guarantee passage to the next phase of the qualifiers.

“With the appointment of a new coach, the return of captain, Stephen Appiah and the zeal of the team to replicate the heroics of Germany 2006, I am confident the Black Stars will definitely scale the Libyan hurdle” Gold Fields Ghana’s Corporate Affairs Director, Dr Tony Aubynn said in a company statement.

Gold Fields Ghana has been associated with the Black Stars since 2005 after grabbing the team’s headline sponsor tag and contributed towards the team’s qualification to Ghana’s debut World Cup campaign in Germany 2006.

Friday's match is a key encounter for both sides. Ghana lead Libya on goal difference at the head of the Group 5 in African Zone qualifying. Both have nine points from four matches.
