The Football Association has expressed profound gratitude to the KGL Foundation for its sustained investment in grassroots football, following the successful conclusion of the sixth edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U-17 Colts Championship.

The eight-day talent identification tournament ended on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, with Greater Accra emerging champions after defeating Western Region 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling final.

The 2026 edition marked another significant milestone in a partnership that has spanned six consecutive years, with the KGL Foundation playing a significant role in providing a competitive platform for young footballers to showcase their abilities, gain valuable exposure and take important steps towards fulfilling their potential.

General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, Esq, expressed the GFA's sincere appreciation to the KGL Foundation for its unwavering commitment to youth football development and its continued support for talent identification from the grassroots.

“We are deeply grateful to the KGL Foundation for standing with Ghana football over the past six years and for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the development of our young talents. Six consecutive editions of this championship reflect a shared belief in the power of football to create opportunities, nurture potential and shape the future of our game," Prosper Harrison Addo told ghanafa.org

“Colts football is the foundation upon which the future of Ghana football is built. It is where young players first discover their abilities, develop their skills, learn discipline and begin to dream of representing their clubs and country.

“We do not take this partnership with KGL for granted. Sustained support of this nature is critical to our talent identification efforts because it allows us to bring the best young players from the regions together, assess their abilities in a competitive environment and identify those who have the potential to progress to higher levels of the game. We sincerely thank the KGL Foundation for believing in this vision and for remaining a dependable partner in the development of Ghana football." he said.

Over the past six years, the KGL Foundation has also provided essential logistical and material support to ensure the successful organisation of the championship. Its contributions have included trophies, sets of training markers, footballs, home and away jerseys with shorts, football socks and medals for the overall winner, first runner-up and second runner-up.

The Foundation has also supported the recognition of individual excellence through awards for the Golden Glove, Goal King and Most Valuable Player, celebrating outstanding performances and encouraging young players to pursue excellence.

Across its six editions, the championship has helped identify young footballers who have gone on to represent Ghana at junior national-team level.

The 2026 championship provided another compelling showcase of the depth of emerging football talent across the country, culminating in a tense final between Greater Accra and Western Region.

Greater Accra eventually prevailed 5-4 on penalties after the contest was decided from the spot, securing the title and bringing the sixth edition to a memorable close. The result added the capital side to the list of champions in a competition that has witnessed different regions and teams rise to the occasion since its inception in 2021.

MAL FC won the inaugural edition in 2021, before Great Corinthians claimed the title in 2022. Ashanti Region triumphed in 2023, Western Region emerged champions in 2024, and Ashanti Region returned to the summit in 2025. Greater Accra's victory in 2026 continued that tradition of competitive regional football and highlighted the depth of talent emerging from Ghana's grassroots system.
